How to create a 2x2 photo
- Choose a photo. Use a recent, front-facing portrait with even lighting, a neutral expression, and both eyes open. JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, and HEIF files up to 30 MB work.
- Check the crop. The tool finds your face and frames the head inside the square. Drag or adjust if the guides are off.
- Pick an output. Download a single photo, a print sheet, or a DS-160 style digital file.
- Review before you submit. Compare the result with the official rules for your application.

| DS-160 style digital | Square JPEG, 600 to 1200 px, under 240 KB. Not for online passport renewal, which has separate digital requirements. |
What the editor does, and why
Crop
The photo is cropped edge-to-edge inside your original image, then resized to 2x2 inches. No padding or borders are added.
Straighten
Rotate left or right to level a tilted photo. The crop adjusts to avoid blank corners.
White background
The background is replaced with plain white by default, with edge refinement around hair and shoulders. Check the edges before you print.
Your photo stays private
Face detection, background replacement, and export all run locally in your browser. Clarvo does not receive, store, or see your portrait.
Very large photos are scaled down automatically while you edit so the tool stays responsive. Smaller images are accepted too, though sharper sources print better.
